More toiles

Tolie of the grey jacket that will be put with a full length chiffon skirt. I am pleased with the final shape of the lapel. I think the lines are soft and therefore compliment the striking hip panels.

Making/Toiling

So I have started to toile my first design, The A-symetrical jacket.
Style lines front & back
-------------------------------------------------------

The calico toile without interfacing was not rigid enought, therefore I will use heavywieght interfacing on the inside to make the panels sit right. (see sketchbook for sample)

Androgyny? Hmmmmmm......

So.....after a sketchbook review, Emily question whether my collection is androgynous or not? She asked this because it is made  up of tailored elements and suits. Initially me answer was no as the whole point of my collection is to show that a women does not have to feel uncomfortable or conceal her female anotomy to represent her status in society. My collection is about embracing feminity and showing it off yet stil keeping scultptured taiolred pieces to emphasise the form. So far I feel my collection is doing this. However, I am starting to wonder if I am contradictiing myself. But then again I sometimes I think the feminism is sometimes a little contradictory.

First Toiles

Here are some prilimary toiles I have created to get a feel for how some of my deisgns may look in relaity.

I feel that this has some good elements to it, I like the shape however I would like the panels to be longer and protrude out more.......NEED TO DEVELOP!!!!!!!!

Also finding ways to make this more rigid.
Stuffing?
Interfacing?

Intial Designs

I have started to design from a varied amount of resarch, however I feel that my first designs were not very thought-provoking or substantial. After discussing this with Adam and my group, I have gone back to my research and began to design garments that I feel question what it is I am asking. Through my designs I wnt to emphasise and exagerate a womens feminity as I believe it doesn't have to be covered up in masculine clothing for a woman to compete with a mans superiority.

Here are some better designs amongst my sketchbook pages.

New sketchbook pages!

In response to my last peer crit, I wanted to start to research more into sexulaity and the power of women. I have researched why women wore corsets originally and if it was a decision they made by their selves or one that was influenced by men. I have also started to question wether people still dress in a uncomfortable way for the satisfaction of a sexual partner?

Crit!

So today we had a crit to discuss and evaluate everyone work. I feel mine went ok, I got some positive feedback and some good points to develop. I feel that my fabric choices are strong I just need to start to sample with them.

New research avenues:

  • Androgyny-Helmut Newton, What is androgyny?, is my collection going to be androgynous?
  • Feminism- What is this?, powerfull women.
  • Sexuality
  • What is beautful?
